Gone Camping!

snoopy-campingYou might think I am sitting at home working on this blog article, but you would be wrong. Due to the magic of automation, I have pre-written this blog article and it is being automatically posted. At least I hope it is. However, if you are reading it, that everything worked as it was supposed to work. And, as you may have already guessed, I am not here writing because I have gone camping. As you reading this, I am sitting back, enjoying the great outdoors with two of my sons, one of my grandsons, my brother-in-law and two nephews. This is a special camp-out as my nephew has enlisted in the Navy (good choice) and thus will not be around for a while to participate in the family camp out for a while. So this camp out, and this article is dedicated to Joey. Good Luck, Joey!

I have enjoyed camping very many years now. My camping experiences have run the gamut from roughing it (sleeping under the stars) to the other extreme of camping in a 31 foot travel trailer with telephone, cable and internet service, and all the comforts of home. Finally I have settled on semi-roughing it, I.E., sleeping in a tent, cooking on a camp stove, and sitting back and relaxing in a comfortable camp chair. For additional relaxation I have found that an occasional nip of Jack Daniels helps maintain the relaxed mood. This year, just to change it up a bit, we have added Tennessee Apple Pie moonshine to the repertoire. I will let you know later how that works out.

Perhaps, as I walk around in the wods and look carefully, or don’t look where I am going, I may be able to answer that time-worn and often asked question, “does a bear defecate in the woods?”.  So, here’s to family, fellowship, toasted marshmallows, roaring campfires, and that is all there is to say about that. Anchors Aweigh!

Those are my thoughts, what are yours?

I am so glad you still enjoy nature the way we did in the woodds behind your house when we were in high school. I’ve ALWAYS loved camping ever since I was a scout, about 9 years old. I was at the Winton Woods Boy Scout Jambori. Scout troops from all over the world were there. It’s a really BIG deal. I generally combine my camping with fishing nowdays. I hit Arkansas’s Bull Shoals Lake as often as I can. Though, there we rent a cabin for a week, if 4 on the trip, cabin costs about $20 a night, each, and EVERYTHING is there. Color TV. A/C, micro-wave, coffee maker, all plates and utensils. Maid service, free battery charge on your trolling motor battery, Nightly gas up, (pay for the gas of course). Point is, ready to go EVERY AM. I have several friends that have retired and moved to that area. Cost of living is very low, but it is no longer “hicksville”. In the beautiful Ozark Mountains. Hope you have a relaxing time, and careful of that hooch. Remember your night with the Wild Irish Rose, LOL.!!!

I enjoyed camping back in the woods, but cannot remember if we camped for the sake of camping or did we camp because we could stay out all night without permission?
