In this article I denounced retirement as a state of existence that was not entirely to my liking. I declared myself back on the job market and then sat back, waiting for the offers to come rolling in. Unfortunately, the groundswell of offers that I was anticipating did not materialize. In fact, excluding those who made some obscene suggestions as to what I could do for a career choice, I received one viable offer. An offer that I, after due consideration, decided to accept.

The offer I am alluding to was an offer to be the Webmaster for the Greater Cincinnati Police Historical Society and Museum. The job is somewhat limited in that it does not have the usual amenities one associates with employment. Specifically, there is no office, no computer, no benefits, and no pay. Other than that it is a fine position. I am not complaining, just reporting. After my “interview” I decided to take the offer. It is not as bad as it sounds. I don’t need a computer; I have several of my own. I don’t need and office, I have my office at home, and I don’t need benefits. There are certain perks to be considered. I can take a day off anytime I want, without the need to put in a request in advance, and I am guaranteed as much unpaid vacation days as I may want.

The first thing I did was change my position title from “Webmaster” to “Website Administrator”. I have never liked the term webmaster. I think it is pretentious. This is probably because I have known a few “webmasters” who took the “master” part of the title too much to heart and became unbearable or even more unbearable then they ever were to begin with. But that is in the past and I am only looking forward. So, after coming home and pondering my new career choice for about a day, I set about the task of creating a new, and hopefully better, website to represent the hard-working members of the Greater Cincinnati Police Historical Society. All of whom, by the way, make pay commensurate with mine.

The new website, called Police-Museum.org is now up and running. It is a work in progress and still has a lot to be done. In fact, I hope for it never to be completed and I think the best way to make the site fun and interesting is to make sure it never becomes stagnant. There are a number of things to see on the site, and more will be coming soon. The most recent addition is the “Fallen Officers” section. Here the tragic stories of all fallen law enforcement in the Greater Cincinnati area are told. The stories are interesting and sometimes are to read, but I recommend everyone spend some time there. It will make you appreciate the sacrifices they have all made while serving their communities.

Now that my new career is up and running, I hope you will help me to be successful by visiting the new website (often). While you are there, sign up for a free email subscription. Oh, and just for the record, I am still interested in a paid position. I have always found the concept of making money to my liking. But rest assured, should that happen, I will also remain as the Website Administrator for the Museum, or at lease for as long as they will have me.

Those are my thoughts, what are yours?

Feel free to comment, like, share, agree or disagree with this post.
