{"id":12893,"date":"2019-12-27T11:13:16","date_gmt":"2019-12-27T16:13:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/townehouse.net\/?p=12893"},"modified":"2019-12-27T11:13:16","modified_gmt":"2019-12-27T16:13:16","slug":"merry-every-day","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/townehouse.net\/?p=12893","title":{"rendered":"Merry Every Day!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" data-attachment-id=\"12894\" data-permalink=\"https:\/\/townehouse.net\/?attachment_id=12894\" data-orig-file=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/townehouse.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/ChristmasTreeDown.jpg?fit=270%2C200&amp;ssl=1\" data-orig-size=\"270,200\" data-comments-opened=\"1\" data-image-meta=\"{&quot;aperture&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;credit&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;camera&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;caption&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;created_timestamp&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;copyright&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;focal_length&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;iso&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;shutter_speed&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;title&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;orientation&quot;:&quot;1&quot;}\" data-image-title=\"ChristmasTreeDown\" data-image-description=\"\" data-image-caption=\"\" data-medium-file=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/townehouse.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/ChristmasTreeDown.jpg?fit=270%2C200&amp;ssl=1\" data-large-file=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/townehouse.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/ChristmasTreeDown.jpg?fit=270%2C200&amp;ssl=1\" class=\"size-full wp-image-12894 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/townehouse.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/ChristmasTreeDown.jpg?resize=270%2C200&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" width=\"270\" height=\"200\" \/>Christmas for 2019 has come and gone.\u00a0 Wow, that was quick.\u00a0 I know that some folks enjoy an extended Christmas season.\u00a0 Some based on their religious preferences enjoy the Christmas season on into the first week of January.\u00a0 But not at our house.\u00a0 The boss lady, who loves Christmas and enjoys every minute of preparing for the big day is completely done with it by the end of Christmas Day.\u00a0 By 4:00 pm on the day after Christmas there was no sign of Christmas anywhere in our home.\u00a0 The tree was disassembled and boxed, the decorations were all packed up, and all the furniture was returned to the original locations.\u00a0 So, I guess that is the end of Christmas.\u00a0 But does it really have to be?<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>At the risk of sounding sappy, there is a lot of the Christmas Season and the Christmas Spirit we should all consider extending into the weeks and months ahead.\u00a0 In other words, all year around.\u00a0 Maybe it was just my perspective, or maybe I wasn\u2019t paying close attention, but it seemed to me that a lot of the rhetoric and hate speech lessened during the season.\u00a0 We certainly have enough of that going around during the entire year to last well into the next year without adding to it.\u00a0 I have seen and heard enough political hate, racial hate, and religious hate to last me the rest of my days.\u00a0 I think the redundancy of the hate messages is boring.\u00a0 You don\u2019t like Donald Trump, or you don\u2019t like white people, or you don\u2019t like black people, or you don\u2019t like Muslims or Catholics, okay, I get it.\u00a0 You have told me, repeatedly.\u00a0 But I can assure you that the repetitiveness of your message is not very likely to change mine, or anyone else\u2019s mind.\u00a0 In fact, I believe the opposite is true.\u00a0 The harder one pushes the harder the other pushes back.\u00a0 It is just that simple.<\/p>\n<p>Also, would it not be nice to extend the courtesies and friendliness of the Christmas season all year long?\u00a0 Obviously, we will not wish folks a Merry Christmas all year, but we can extend a friendly greeting to one another all year around.\u00a0 When you pass someone on the street, in the hallways at work, or in the grocery store, greet them.\u00a0 Greet them with friendship in your voice and mean it.\u00a0 I have seen people glance at one another and say \u201chey\u201d avert their gaze and move on.\u00a0 I guess that is better than nothing, but is that the best we can do?\u00a0 Did it not feel good when you saw someone and wished them Merry Christmas with a smile on your face, and they did the same in kind?\u00a0 Didn\u2019t you walk away from that encounter feeling just a little better?\u00a0 The words do not have to be Merry Christmas, but the sincerity and warm smile can be the same, and the good feelings that follow will also be there.\u00a0 Give it a try, it\u2019s free.\u00a0 I\u2019ll start; \u201cHi!
