\"No-Big-Government\"<\/a>I don’t know about you, but I for one am getting quite tired of government intervention in my life. I am tired of government telling me how to drive my car, how to prepare my food, how to raise my kids, and telling me what I can, or cannot do in the privacy of my own home. My feeling are this, if I want to do something, and that something does not endanger my fellow human beings, then I should be able to do what I want. I don’t need government telling me how to do it. Life in the 1950’s was much less legislated, and times were simple.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

In the 1950’s, there were no laws on\u00a0seat belts, motorcycle helmets, child proof lighters, tamper resistant pill bottles, flame retardant clothes, etc. There were no laws because most people where smart enough to know they had to protect themselves from danger. The big boat cars of the 19590 era did not even have seat belts. Of course, people will say that seat belts save lives. Maybe so, but the statistics say more people died on the highway in 2003 than in 1955, so how is that working for you? I haven’t seen statistics on other items (I am sure they exist), but people have figured out how to unchild\u00a0proof their bic lighters, they have figured out that once they get the top off the pill bottle it is easier to simply place it back on, but not secure it in place. The result is, the consumer pays more for the government intervention, but in the long run, defeats what the intervention was supposed to accomplish in the first place. Well, at least the smart people have. And that brings me to my final point.<\/p>\n

It used to be called “survival of the fittest”. This was true in the cave man days. Or to put it another way, those who ran the fast ate, those who did not run the fastest were eaten. Of the centuries, that rule changed. It is now (or should be) survival of the smartest. That is to say, smart people survived, and stupid people succumbed to their own stupidities. This kept the gene pool chlorinated and the human race could advance. . . . until the government stepped in. The government decided they needed to protect stupid people from themselves. So they enacted a bunch of laws that any smart person would know enough to prevent in the first place. Smart people put on their seat belts when they drive, we do not need a law telling us to do so. Smart people put their lighters on a high shelf, and their medicines in the top part of the medicine cabinet. We do not need laws to protect us, or our smart children from these device. The government wants to protect the stupid people, and their stupider children from themselves. And the gene pool continues to get more and more polluted.<\/p>\n

Step back government, let nature take its course. At least that is what I think. . .<\/p>\n
