Missing Person Investigation!

Private EyeIt was a cool evening in late March. There was nothing significant that would set this day apart from any other day. I sat in my run down office sipping a bourbon, feet up on my desk. The sign on my door read “JOSEPH COLLINS, PRIVATE INVESTIGATIONS”. Yeah, that is me, Joe Collins. I make my living as a PI. Lately it has not been much of a living. I guess it is a sign of the times, a sign of our depressed economy. There has not been much called for the service I provide. I have been working on a few background investigations, and following a few suspected cheating husbands, but not much else. It pays the bills but leaves very little for anything else. What I needed was a case that would pay good, and get me out of my rut.

I heard a sound outside my door. I immediately became alert, my hand near the desk drawer that contained the Colt .45 I sometimes carried when I was on an investigation. I am always expecting trouble. You don’t do what I do for a living and not expect to make some enemies along the way. The door knob turned, the door opened, and she walked into my office, and into my life. As I took my feet off the desk, I made a visual assessment of her and all her attributes. She was perfect., She had no flaws that I could see, and there wasn’t a lot I could not see as she stood there in a tight blouse, miniskirt, and high heels. She spoke to me in a low sultry voice, and I had to force myself to concentrate on what she was saying.

She told me, in a weepy voice,  that she was desperately in need of my services. Her husband was missing and she had no idea why he was gone, nor where he might be, but she suspected foul play. She described him as about six feet tall, 180 pounds, brown eyes and brown hair. I asked her if he had any marks, scars or tattoos that would identify him. She informed me that he had a small tattoo of a Playboy Bunny on his right upper arm. She said he had it for years and as a result he had acquired the nickname of “Bunny”. I explained my fees, that I charged $1200 per day, plus expenses and she readily agreed. We did all the preliminary paperwork, she signed the contract and that was that. I had my case. I was on the Bunny Trail.

Happy Easter to all.

Those are my thoughts, what are yours.
