Politically Speaking!

ScrewedWe The People? I, for the most part, am not a political animal. I believe in personal freedom, states rights, and small government. I realize that my political views will not change the hearts and minds of those with opposing points of view. But there are certain basic concepts that all people should agree upon, whether they lean left, or rights, or are right down the middle. I believe it is in the U.S. Constitution where it says “By the People, For the People”. It does not say “Screw the People”. The the screwing we have been getting from the Federal l Government for many years should offend all, regardless of political leanings.

We do not need government legislating how we lead our lives. This is speaking of all levels of government, Federal, State, and local. If the life choices we make do not infringe on the rights of others we should be allowed to live our lives as we please. We do not need government in our bedrooms, telling us what we can d, or who we can do it with. We do not need government in our eateries telling us what we can eat or drink, or how much of it we can legally consume. We do not need government in our living rooms, telling us what we can watch, or read. I do not need government telling me how to raise my children. And I don’t need government telling me how I can or cannot legally alter my mind or mood. Alcohol is legal, cannabis is not? Does that really make any sense to anyone.

The Federal Government needs to respect States Rights. The Federal government should have no say on how a state decides to control environmental matters. If there is oil there, and the state wishes to permit drilling, then so be in. Thee should be no “Federal Lands”. All such real estate resides in one State or another, and that lad should be the property of, and responsibility, of the state wherein it is contained. It is time the States take back what is their, and quit depending on Federal Dollars to support their needs.

I am tired of Government in my pocket. I feel, as a citizen, and the employer of politicians, that I should have more say in how the government uses my money I feel we should be afforded the opportunity of directing where our tax dollars go. If I want my tax dollars to be spent on shelters for the homeless, but not on family planning agencies, then such options should be made available to us. If a large percentage of the population instructed government that tax dollars should be spent domestically, and not sent to places such as Libya, would that change our deficit? After all, it is our money, why can we not have some say in how it is spent. Yeah, yeah, I know, that is what we elect representatives for. How is that working out for us?

I know many people are having a difficult time deciding who to vote for, any given election. I have a solid pace of advice that will help you decide. Pick the politicians that smoke the same brand of cigarettes as you. That way, when you are basking in the afterglow of the government screwing your just received, at least you can enjoy your favorite brand.

We The People?  Yeah Right!  We The Pawns is accurate.

See? If if we lean in opposite directions politically, it seems we really do believe in the same things. Jeni accused me of being a Libertarian last night. She thought I’d be offended but really, for the most part, I agree with the Libertarian mindset. We just differ on the extremes. Great post, Dad!

If I had to pick , Libertarian would be my choice. I prefer being non-afiliated.

You once referred to yourself as a “staunch Republican”. That’s changed?

That is high praise knowing how hard it is to get from your offspring at times. You leave one question unanswered. What if you don’t smoke. I’ll wait for pot to be legalized and vote for any politician who doesn’t inhale!
