Screw The People?

screwuI for one have had it up to here with the shenanigans going on in Washington. We are supposed to have a representative form of government. That means the people we elect are supposed to represent our interest in Washington. I do not think that is happening, do you? I think the people we elected only represent their own interests, and the interests of the political machines that back them, and the PACs that fund them. But that is not the way it is supposed to work.

Does it represent the best interest of the people of the United States to have to endure a government shut down or even a partial government shutdown? The government shutdown allegedly only shut down non-essential services. But who made the decision of what services are essential and what services are non-essential? Did anyone ask you? Oh wait, now I remember. The same people who caused the shut down of the government will decide which parts of government are essential or non-essential. Does that give you a warm and fussy feeling? I ask you this, do you feel that any elected official, in any branch of government, at any level, truly has your best interest at heart? When was the last time you looked at an elected official and felt confident that he or she was really representing you? When you cast your ballot o you feel you have voted for the best there is, or do you feel you have voted for the best of the worst?

I think the representative form of government has passed its prim. The reason this form of government evolved in the first place was due to time and distance constraints, the only effective way to have a voice in government was to send someone there to represent you. Time and distance are no longer a factor. Technology gives us instant access, regardless of distance. I don’t think any representative should be allowed to make a decision without checking with the people first. How hard would it be? What would have been the results of all our representatives were required to put up an electronic poll asking us how we felt about a government shut down? What if they were required to make their decision based on the results of the poll? Would the outcome have been different? does it sound ludicrous to you? I think it is within the realm of possibility.

For the record, I am not advocating the overthrow of the government. I am advocating that it is time for change. We need to give the power back to the people where it belongs. We need to start holding our elected officials accountable for their actions. We need to step up and take charge. After all, we are supposed to be in charge. How does it go? We the people of the United States, in order to form a more perfect union, establish justice, insure domestic tranquility. . .

Those are my thoughts, what are yours?

A “PURE” Democracy is probably something that could be done in the computer age. Howver; it assumes the people are smart enough to know what they are voting for and I don’t think that is the case. Otherwise, they would have tossed out most the old gang in Washington years ago. Better throw them out this time, though.

Good point, Scott. Considering how many people use Face Book as their verified source of today’s events, it could be problematic.

I have never censored any comment. The spam filter will get it if there are a lot of URLs in the message. Obviously this comment is here. Not sure but will keep an eye on the spam filter, just in case.
