My Dog Ate My Blackberry

20140930_130148_AndroidLast night as I prepared to go to bed, I was unable to locate my Blackberry. It sits on my nightstand every night because it doubles as my alarm clock, and it puts me to sleep because I like to listen to thunderstorms on my headphone as I drift off. I am a thunderstorm junkie, I bet you didn’t know that. I searched high and low for the device and as panic mounted I became more certain that Darby, the Golden Retriever, was guilty of taking my Blackberry. Gulp!

I checked her mouth because I have heard that if a dog eats a Blackberry they will get a Blue Tooth. Apparently, that is not true. The search led out to the back yard where the Blackberry, and its leather case were found, both chewed up mercilessly. I took the Blackberry in, showed it to Darby and proceeded to bark quite loudly at here. She did cower a little, but mainly she keep her eye on the Blackberry, licking her lips, and giving me a WTF look. “I’ll give you WTF”, I told her. That made her wag her tail. So I went to bed, but had trouble sleeping because I did not get my thunderstorm fix.

All this makes me wonder which is worse; the dog’s obsession with chewing on non-edibles, or my obsession with technology. I have been jonesing all day for my Blackberry. I keep having momentary panics has I touch my waist and realize it is not there, and then quickly remember why. (Dumb dog). I miss not hearing the sounds of email arriving. I miss not being able to check Google Latitude and see if I am really where I think I am. So far I have always been there. . . . but one day, who knows.

By Monday I will be fixed up with another Blackberry. I will be content knowing I am totally connected with everything and everyone. I will be able to check latitude again and verify my whereabouts. But, it is going to be a long weekend. Maybe my wife will let me touch her Blackberry every now and again to help get me through. I think I might have a problem. “Hi, my name is Tom and I am a Blackberry addict”.

Those are my thoughts, what are yours?
