Merry Christmas! Merry, Merry Christmas! I hope you have a very Merry Christmas! See how easy it is to say the words. I did not feel compelled, not even once to say Happy Holidays. Why? Because this time of the year is when we celebrate Christmas. On December 25th, all the little children will come to the Christmas Tree and open their Christmas gifts. We will sing Christmas carols and we will play Christmas music on the radio. You get it, it is Christmas time.
I do not really care if I offend those who celebrate Hanukkah or Kwanzaa or Ramadan or Ram a lama ding dong. (Before you purist jump down my throat, I realize that Ramadan is celebrated in the summer, but I really want to say ram a lama ding dong, and I needed Ramadan to segue into that). If you celebrate one of those other holidays, feel free to wish me, or anyone else, what ever tidings you wish, but I will be sure and wish you a Merry Christmas as well. I refuse to use the phrase happy holidays for this time of the year. Besides, lets get the priority straight. Christmas celebrates the birth of Jesus Christ. Hanukkah celebrates the dedication of a temple in Jerusalem, and Kwanzaa. . . . nobody knows that that celebrates. It is a made up holiday anyway and its history only goes back to 1964.
And for those politically correct liberal types out there who want to wish us all a Happy Holiday, I think it is important to point out that it was a Holy Day before it became a Holiday. And I think Holiday is a derivative of Holy Day. Therefore, when one wishes you Happy Holidays, in essence they are saying, Happy Holy days, or to put it another way, Merry Christmas. So, I hope you all enjoy your Christmas candy and Christmas Cookies, have a good time decorating your Christmas tree, and sending and receiving your Christas Cards. Don’t forget to go to church and partake of the Christmas Services and let me close by wishing all a very MERRY CHRISTMAS!
Those are my thoughts, what are yours?
